It seems inherent that at some point in time everyone will be driven to seek out a personal purpose in life. For a lucky few, it is apparent and clear and right from the start gives them a purpose-driven life that easily unfurls before them. However, more often than not, people find it difficult to find the satisfaction that comes with living for a purpose and may spend many years seeking their niche.
There is definitely no shortage of opportunities to help or inspire others. Yet, life purpose always seems to feel elusive and just out of reach. It can be overwhelming and discouraging causing individuals to give up and settle for a life they feel they were not meant for. So, how does one remain positive in their search and where does the search begin? Here are three key ways to help get on the right path to finding a personal purpose.
Use Personal Pain Positively
Everyone experiences painful events during their lives. Sickness, death, turbulent relationships, and other experiences can be used to positively change the negative aspects of their lives. One way people can find purpose is by thinking of personal experiences that impacted them in a way that they want to become a part of creating a positive change. For example, they may use their memories of being in the adoption system to drive them to become an advocate for change to help children in the system currently.
Embrace Passion
Everyone has that one thing they were passionate about as a child. It may have been something silly, artistic, or something that fueled many hours of focused attention to be spent on it. Many lose sight of that passion and forget the sheer joy it brought. Bring the passion back and find that one subject that sparks the fire not because it will bring riches or produce attention, but because it truly brings happiness. Then let it blossom and lead the way to your purpose.
Be a Part of Something Bigger than Yourself
There is no shortage of problems and suffering in the world. Many find an issue they care about and seek out ways to support positive change, reform, and awareness for it. Being part of helping to solve a bigger problem will translate to a feeling of making a difference and in turn, purpose.
